Huelsman's Two Goals Helps Men’s Soccer to 2-1 Win at No. 8 Rockhurst

Box Score

KANSAS CITY, MO. – Sophomore Jon Huelsman scored twice in the first half to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team to a 2-1 win at No. 8 ranked Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The win marks the second time in the last 10 days that the Tritons have defeated a top 10 opponent, having knocked off then No. 4 Drury at home on October 4. It is also the second straight year UMSL has edged nationally ranked Rockhurst during the regular season with the Tritons getting a 1-0 overtime win at home last season when the Hawks were ranked fifth.

UMSL evens its ledger at 6-6 overall with the win, including 5-5 in the GLVC. Rockhurst, which suffered its first league loss of the year, drops to 9-2-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the conference. The home GLVC loss for the Hawks was also their first a 1-0 defeat to Bellarmine during the 2010 season.

Huelsman's goals came within a span of six minutes to give UMSL a 2-0 lead. His first tally came at the 31:17 mark off a shot from 25-yards out into the upper left of the goal with the assist to freshman Bronson Melvin. Huelsman, who leads the team with five goals - three of which have come this weekend - then scored off a direct kick from 20 yards inside the left post.

Rockhurst got on the board with 10:05 to play when All-American Mark Magee connected on a shot from 15 yards inside the right post that got past Tritons keeper Nick Lenkman.

Lenkman improved to 4-1 in goal, recording six saves as Rockhurst fired 24 shots, landing seven on target. The Tritons were held to four shots, all of which came off the foot of Hueslman.

UMSL is back on the field Friday, hosting Illinois Springfield at 7:30 p.m.
