Three Triton Players Named All-GLVC, Scott Tabbed Coach of the Year

EAST PEORIA, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team had three players earn All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors, while head coach Amanda Scott was tabbed the Coach of the Year, as announced by the league office Wednesday night at an awards reception on the eve of the 2019 GLVC Softball Championship Tournament.
 
Junior pitcher Andee Tiffee was named the league's first team, while senior pitcher Carly Kingery and senior first baseman Chelsea Martinez were both selected to the second team.
 
Amanda Scott
  • Earns her first GLVC Coach of the Year honor.
  • Fourth GLVC Coach of the Year honor for UMSL Softball (Brian Levin in 2011 and 2015 and Chuck Sosnowski in 2009).
  • Scott is 108-56 in her third season at the helm of the program. She picked up her 100th win on April 12 in a 3-2 win over Maryville, becoming the fastest coach in program history to accomplish that milestone.
  • Guided UMSL to the co-GLVC regular season title and the league tournament's No. 1 seed.
 
Andee Tiffee
  • Earns all-GLVC honors for the second straight year after picking up third team accolades last season.
  • Owns a 1.58 ERA with a 14-4 record and 171 strikeouts.
  • ERA is second in the conference and 32nd in NCAA DII.
  • Ranks third in the GLVC and 44th in NCAA DII in hits allowed per seven innings (5.17).
  • Total strikeouts is third in the league and 20th nationally.
  • Ranks first in the GLVC in strikeouts per seven innings (9.3), which is 11th in NCAA DII.
  • Limiting opponents to a .201 batting average.
  • In GLVC-only games, recorded a 1.48 ERA with a 10-2 record that included three shutouts.
 
Carly Kingery
  • Three-time All-GLVC honoree.
  • 15-10 with a 2.04 ERA and 177 strikeouts.
  • Ranks fourth in the GLVC and 89th in the NCAA DII in ERA.
  • Is third in the GLVC and 20th nationally in total strikeouts and third in the league and 39th in DII in strikeouts per seven innings (7.7).
  • In GLVC-only games, sported a 9-4 record with a 2.44 ERA.
 
Chelsea Martinez
  • Two-time All-GLVC selection.
  • Has started all 48 games, batting .385 with 55 hits, including 13 doubles, one triple and 10 home runs for a slugging percentage of .699.
  • Also has 37 RBI and 20 runs.
  • Ranks third in the GLVC in home runs and 88th in NCAA DII.
  • Also third in the league and 81st nationally in slugging percentage.
 
The league also recognized 14 GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees, including UMSL senior shortstop Reagan Osborn. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced in May.
 
UMSL is 31-17 overall and finished as the co-GLVC regular season champion with a 20-6 record. The Tritons are the No. 1 seed in this week's GLVC Tournament and begin play tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against No. 8 seed Lewis.
