UMSL vs. UAM
ARKADELPHIA, ARK. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team opened the final day of play at the Henderson State Hot Springs Classic with a 10-3 victory over Arkansas Tech, but lost its nightcap in a 13-2 decision to Arkansas-Monticello.
The Tritons defeated the Golden Suns (9-7) despite being out-hit 16-10, but was able to strand 13 Arkansas Tech runners, while leaving just five of their own on base.
Junior Crystal Koehler won her second game of the season in the circle, working five innings. Although the hurler scattered 12 hits, she only allowed just three runs.
Senior Megan Brussman finished 2-for-4 at the plate and recorded three RBIs. The centerfielder led off the bottom of the first inning with her second career homerun – and the first since her freshman season.
Fellow senior Katie Bartlett also finished with a pair of hits, including her team leading fourth home run of the young season.
Junior Karey Kruse went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
After freshman Leslie Davis delivered a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning that evened the score at 2-2, the Cotton Blossoms (8-4) scored 11 unanswered runs over the next five innings to garner the win.
UAM used 14 hits to score 13 runs and were aided by three UMSL errors.
Davis suffered her first loss in the circle, pitching five innings and allowing eight runs on eight hits, while walking four and striking out two.
Offensively, Davis finished and Kruse finished with two hits each. The Tritons totaled just six hits in the contest.
UMSL (5-3) is scheduled to return to the field March 11 at Southwest Baptist in a doubleheader. Go Back
