A two-time All-MIAA and two-time All-Region performer, Mutnansky was a power hitter who helped UMSL to the NCAA Tournament in each of his two seasons. He left the program as the career leader in home runs with 24, ranked second in slugging percentage (.655), third in doubles (33) and fifth in RBIs (99). As a junior, he earned First Team All-Region and Second Team All-MIAA honors after setting school records for home runs (13) and RBI's (52) in a season. He helped the team to a 30-20 record – marking the program's first 30-win season since 1977 – and the finals of the NCAA DII Central Regional Tournament. As a senior, he earned American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) First Team All-American honors and was also a First Team All-Region and First Team All-MIAA pick. He was named to the NCAA Central Regional All-Tournament team, helping the Rivermen advance to the NCAA DII World Series before finishing with a program-best 31-11 record.
