Rita Hoff-Scott is one of the best all-around athletes to ever compete in an UMSL uniform. She was involved in virtually every sport offered at UMSL, including basketball, volleyball, field hockey, soccer and tennis. In tennis, she won eight of her ten singles matches her senior year and was ranked top 16 in the Missouri Valley. Scott was also a three-year starter in both field hockey and volleyball, starting in every game for both sports all three years. She guided the volleyball team to two second-place finishes and led the field hockey team to a second-place finish as well.

As a basketball player, she was a starting point guard averaging 18 points per game her freshman season. The next two seasons, Scott acted as player/coach, guiding the team to two league titles and averaging 25 points per game each of the last two years. As a senior, she was invited to try out for the team that would compete in the World University Games in Mexico in 1973. Scott achieved all of these athletic accomplishments while being named to the Deans List at UMSL all four years as a student. In addition to her accomplishments at UMSL, Scott earned many honors as a racquetball player, winning numerous amateur titles and seven professional tournaments.

After graduating, Scott coached the first varsity women’s basketball team at UMSL in the 1974-75 season, leading the team to a 15-1 record that season for a .928 winning percentage, the highest winning percentage for any team in UMSL history.

Rita Hoff Scott is also a member of the Missouri Sport Hall of Fame, being inducted in 2003.
