Baseball Earns No. 3 Seed in GLVC Tournament and Will Face No. 6 Seed Bellarmine

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The bracket is set for this week's 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Championship Tournament, which will be held May 9-12 at Bosse Field and USI Field in Evansville, Ind.

UMSL (27-17, 22-10, .688) earned the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed Bellarmine (25-21, 20-13, .606) on Friday at 11 a.m. at the USI Field. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

Drury, the GLVC West Division Champion, will own the top seed in the double-elimination postseason event, followed by East Division title holder Lewis as the No. 2 seed. Other teams in the field include No. 4 Saint Joseph's, No. 5 Missouri S&T, No. 7 Quincy, and No. 8 Maryville.

The top three teams from the West Division, along with the top two from the East Division and three wildcard squads make up the eight-team field, based on winning percentage in conference play.

Drury (36-14, 25-9 GLVC, .735) garnered the top seed in the event and will have a first-round matchup with fellow West Division foe and one of the hottest teams in the league right now in eighth-seeded Maryville (20-22, 19-15, .559). The Saints have won five straight games, including the last four that came in a gutsy 17-hour performance at Illinois Springfield. Maryville had to win all four games against the Prairie Stars as a loss would have kept the Saints from the field. The two West Division teams, who split a four-game series back on March 29-30, will meet Thursday, May 9, at 2:30 p.m. CT at Bosse Field.

The winner of the Drury/Maryville contest will meet the victory of the No. 4/5 matchup, which features the fourth-seeded Pumas out of the East and No. 5 seed Miners from the West. Saint Joseph's (29-16, 24-12, .667) will square off against Missouri S&T (24-23, 22-14, .611), a winner in its last 10 games, for the first time this season in the tournament opener at the Bosse Field site. First pitch at Bosse is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Following the Tritons and Knights will be East Division Champion and No. 2 seed Lewis (29-14, 23-10, .697) and No. 7 Quincy (27-17, 19-13, .594) at 2:30 p.m. The two interdivision squads met recently in non-conference action as the visiting Hawks stole a pair (5-2, 10-9) at Lewis on April 30 in Romeoville, Ill.

The event will mark the 34th GLVC Baseball Championship Tournament and the second-straight season it has been held at historic Bosse Field. In all, Bosse Field will host tournament games each of the four days and a total of nine of the 14 contests, with the remaining five being played at USI Field over the first two days.

A new conference champion will be crowned in Evansville as last season saw Indianapolis storm through the consolation bracket after a first-round loss and beat Northern Kentucky 4-3 for the title.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students, and $5 for children, while kids 5-and-under are free. Tickets will be available at those prices from Thursday through Saturday, while Sunday's tickets will dip to $8 for adults, $5 for students, and $3 for children. The GLVC is offering an All-Tournament pass for $35.
