Carly Ochs recorded 13 kills, while senior
Allie Ewing followed with 11 to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-18, 20-25, 25-19 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over Bellarmine on Sunday in the home finale on Senior Day.
The Tritons improve to 15-9 overall, including 10-6 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine falls to 12-13 and 5-11 in the league. Ewing,
Haley Brightwell and
Emily Bragaw were all honored prior to playing the final home match of their career.
UMSL hit .172 as a team, while limiting the Knights to a .078 attack percentage, and posted 12 blocks. Ewing recorded a career-best six blocks, while junior
Jessica Ploss tallied seven, three of which came in the first set victory. Ploss also tallied three of her four kills to help the Tritons to the set one victory.
Ochs recorded seven of her kills in set two, while junior
Lindsay Meyer assisted on 15 of UMSL's 16 kills. She finished with 41 assists and added 16 digs.
The Tritons hit just -.049 in the set three loss and fell behind 6-2 in the fourth set before rallying back to tie it at 9-9 on a Meyer ace. Bellarmine responded with three unanswered before UMSL reeled off six straight to take a 15-12 lead it would not relinquish on an ace from junior
Erin Walker.
Walker recorded 15 digs, while Bragaw led the squad with 21.
UMSL will close out the regular season this week with three matches, beginning Wednesday at McKendree in non-conference play. The Tritons then travel to Quincy and Truman State on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
