COLUMBUS, OHIO – Ohio Dominican outscored the visiting University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team, 10-0, in the final three minutes to garner a 67-57 victory over the Tritons on Sunday afternoon.
The loss drops UMSL to 4-4 overall and overshadowed a 15-point, 15-rebound performance by junior
Kelly Kunkel. Ohio Dominican improves to 4-6.
Seniors
Alexis Lawrence and
Kelly McGovern each added 14 points for the Tritons, which shot an even 35 percent and owned a 42-31 rebounding advantage, including an 18-6 edge on the offensive end, where Kunkel snagged 10 of her boards. The host Panthers shot 44 percent.
Ohio Dominican took a 35-30 lead at halftime after owning a 28-14 advantage at the 6:36 mark. UMSL closed out the first half on a 16-7 run to close the gap, with Kunkel scoring 10 of the Tritons' points.
The second half saw four lead changes and six ties, including Lawrence's three-point bucket at the 3:32 mark knotted the score at 57-57. However, the Tritons would miss their final five field goal attempts and Ohio Dominican went 8-10 at the free throw line in the final three minutes.
Kunkel added three assists, while junior
Amber Daly and sophomore
Sydney Bloch also had three each. McGovern collected three steals.
UMSL returns to the floor on Friday, Jan. 2, hosting Illinois Springfield in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at 5:30 p.m.
