ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team drained a program single-game record 18 three-pointers to down Central Christian of the Bible, 102-41, on Friday night to improve to 6-0 on the season.
UMSL shot an even 52 percent en route to the win, including 56.4 percent in the second half, in which they made 11 three-point buckets. The 18 three-pointers bettered the previous record of 15, which UMSL had tied in its last outing on Tuesday night.
All 12 players scored for the second straight game, led by junior
Kevin Swanson's 15 points. Sophomore
Alex Majewski finished with 12 points, while juniors
Derek Williams,
Brandon Marquardt and
Tre Ogles recorded 10 points each.
UMSL, which owned a 43-20 halftime lead, outscored the Saints, 33-0, in points off turnovers as Central Christian committed 21 miscues. The Tritons had a season-low four turnovers and held a 43-23 rebounding advantage, including an 18-4 edge on the offensive end, outscoring their opponents, 20-1, in second chance points.
Redshirt freshman
Andreas Kefalas pulled down eight rebounds, including five on the offensive end, while Majewski and senior
Aareon Smith grabbed seven each.
The Tritons dished out 32 assists on 39 made field goals, tying the fourth most in a single game. Marquardt and freshman
Max Cook handed out six each. Cook also connected on all three-point attempts for nine points.
UMSL returns to action on Wednesday at Lindenwood in a 7 p.m. contest.
TRITON TIDBITS: UMSL improved to 6-0 for the first time since the 2009-10 season… the Tritons have won 17 straight home non-conference games dating back to the start of the 2010-11 season.
