QUINCY, ILL. – Senior
Tierra Snow scored a career-high 21 points, but it wasn't enough to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team overcome Quincy on Saturday in an 80-73 Great Lakes Valley Conference road loss.
Snow connected on 9-of-12 field goals and snagged six rebounds, all on the offensive end, as the Tritons slip to 7-7 overall, including 3-3 in the GLVC. Quincy, which received 33 points from its bench, improves to 8-6 and 4-3 in the league, while claiming its fourth straight win.
UMSL trailed by just two with 2:32 to play after rallying from a 14-point second half deficit, but came up short in the comeback.
Quincy used a 6-2 advantage to open the second half and took its largest lead at 49-35 just three minutes in. Senior
Alexis Lawrence followed with a three-pointer and scored seven points in a 15-7 run over the next nine minutes as the Tritons pulled within 56-50 at the 8:25 mark on a Fletcher lay-in.
The Hawks scored the game's next four points at the free throw line before UMSL continued chipping away, this time using an 11-4 spurt to pull within 64-61 on Snow's offensive putback with 4:29 remaining. A Lawrence three-pointer then cut the deficit to 69-67 with 2:32 to play, but the Tritons would get no closer and Quincy helped seal the game by going 9-of-10 at the free-throw line in the final 1:34.
UMSL shot 41.3 percent from the field and owned a 34-30 rebounding advantage, including a 19-9 edge on the offensive end and outscored Quincy, 20-5, in second chance points. The Hawks connected at a 51.5 clip and took advantage of 15 Triton miscues, outscoring UMSL , 22-9, in points off turnovers.

Kelly Kunkel added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Lawrence recorded 13 points. Junior
Amber Daly followed with 11 points, while senior
Kelly McGovern added 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Daly's three-pointer at the 15:53 mark gave the Tritons an early 13-9 lead before Quincy followed with eight straight to ignite a 13-2 run, taking a 22-15 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half. Kunkel ended the run with a three-pointer and later scored five straight for the Tritons to pull her team within 31-27 with 4:43 remaining. However, Quincy closed the half on a 12-4 run to take a 43-33 lead into the intermission.
Snow and Kunkel combined for 19 of UMSL's first half points, shooting a combined 8-of-11 from the field, including a 5-of-5 performance from Snow.
UMSL wraps up three games in five days on Monday, traveling across town to Maryville. It will also be the Tritons' fourth road game in a five-game stretch.
