ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team had a three-match win streak snapped on Saturday with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-19 loss to No. 9 Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon.
Despite the setback, freshman
Maddy Russell recorded a career-high 15 kills and added 14 digs.
UMSL slips to 11-13 overall, including 5-6 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst improves to 23-2 overall, including 11-0 in the league, maintaining its hold atop the West Division standings.
The Tritons were limited to .101 hitting, while Rockhurst hit .187 despite a 10-6 blocking advantage from UMSL. Senior

Lexi Rogers each had five blocks.

Madyson Abeyta dished out 16 and 12 assists, respectively, while senior
Erin Walker recorded 18 digs.
The Tritons dropped the first set even though they outhit the Hawks, .143 to .128 and owned a 5-1 edge in blocks, including three from Rogers. Russell finished with seven first set kills.
Russell added another seven kills in the second set to equal her previous match-high of 14 kills. The Hawks closed out the set with a 4-1 run after seeing a 20-15 lead trimmed to 20-19 after a pair of Russell kills and a block from Ploss and senior
Hannah Miller.
In the third set, a Miller kill tied the score at 16-16, but Rockhurst followed with a 5-1 run, taking a 21-17 lead en route to the victory.
Miller added nine kills and three blocks for the Tritons.
UMSL continues its current four-match homestand on Friday, hosting McKendree at 7 p.m.
