ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team lost a five-set battle to visiting Missouri S&T on Friday night in the Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Miners won by set scores of 15-25, 30-28, 25-20, 15-25, 15-8.
UMSL slips to 15-16 overall, including 8-9 in the GLVC and will wrap up the season tomorrow, hosting Drury at 1 p.m. Prior to the match, the Tritons will honor their five seniors, including
Lindsay Meyer, Hannah Miller, Carly Ochs, Jessica Ploss and
Erin Walker.
Ploss recorded 12 kills and 10 blocks in the effort. She tallied six of those blocks in the set one victory, including three solos, helping to limit Missouri S&T to -.070 hitting.
The Miners evened the match in the second set, fending off four UMSL set points en route to the 30-28 victory. The frame consisted of 11 ties and six score changes. Ochs recorded five of her team-high 13 kills in that frame.
Ochs also added five kills in the fourth set win, in which the Tritons limited Missouri S&T to .000 hitting to force the decisive set five.
It was UMSL who was limited offensively in the final set, tallying just five kills and seven errors.
The Tritons hit .140 in the match, while Missouri S&T hit .135. Both teams recorded 12 blocks.
Freshman
Maddy Russell added 11 kills and 13 digs, while Meyer finished with 42 assists and 12 digs. Walker went over the 30-dig plateau for the first time in her career, collecting 38 digs. She tallied 13 of those in the lengthy second set.
