Brandon Marquardt made a career-high five three-pointers en route to 17 points to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team to its third straight win with a 74-58 victory over Webster on Tuesday night.
Freshman
Joshua Webster led the Tritons with 19 points, while junior
Joseph English followed with 11 points as the Tritons shot 50.9 percent from the field to improve to 3-2 overall. Webster (0-2) was playing the game as an exhibition.
UMSL ended the first half on a 13-2 run to take a 32-24 lead into the break with Marquardt scoring nine of those points on a trio of three-pointers.
The Tritons overcame a season-high 20 turnovers in the win, which led to 25 Gorlock points.
UMSL owned a 42-32 rebounding advantage with Marquardt and junior
Hunter Reine pulling down six boards each. Webster added five rebounds and dished out a five assists. The Tritons had a season-best 19 assists on 27 field goals and defensively, limited Webster to 37.1 percent shooting, including 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from three-point range.
UMSL is idle until next Thursday (Dec. 3) when it welcomes Drury for the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener.
TRITON TIDBITS: UMSL has won 27 straight non-conference home games dating back to the 2010-11 season… UMSL and Webster were meeting for the first time since 1992-93… the Tritons improve to 7-0 all-time against the Gorlocks… 12 of 13 players that saw action got into the scoring column for UMSL.
