ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team lost a 67-31 decision on Monday night at NCAA Division I Saint Louis. While the contest was a regular season game for the host Billikens, which improve to 6-0, it was an exhibition game for the Tritons.
Junior
Shea O'Brien recorded a team-best eight points, while junior
Simone Gillum added seven points. The Tritons were limited to 22.8 percent shooting, while the Billikens connected at a 45.9 percent clip.
Saint Louis took a 38-13 lead into halftime after a 19-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Billikens raced out to an 8-0 lead as UMSL missed its first five shots.
Three-pointers from O'Brien and senior
Kelly Kunkel gave UMSL an 8-5 start to the second half, pulling UMSL within 43-21 at the media timeout before Saint Louis posted a 52-24 advantage after three quarters played.
UMSL finished with 21 turnovers as Saint Louis owned a 26-2 advantage in points off turnovers. The Billikens held a 41-39 rebounding edge, although the Tritons were better on the offensive end, 14-11.
Junior
Sydney Bloch recorded five assists, while Kunkel collected a pair of steals.
The Tritons return to the court on Thursday, hosting Drury in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at 5:30 p.m.
