Softball Defats Fort Lewis, Falls to Central Oklahoma to Split on Day Two of NFCA Lead Off Classic

TUCSON, ARIZ. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team closed out pool play at the NFCA Division II Lead Off Classic with a 6-3 win over Fort Lewis on Saturday afternoon, but opened bracket play with a 9-4 loss to Central Oklahoma later that day.

The Tritons (3-1) return to the field tomorrow at 8 a.m. (MST) to face Midwestern State.

The Tritons recorded three homeruns en route to the win. Sophomore Alex Stupek delivered the first long ball in the first inning, while senior Brianna Butler added her second of the season in the third inning to make it a 3-0 Tritons lead. Senior Katie Rutledge added a two-run shot in the fourth inning to put UMSL on top 5-0.
 
Fort Lewis got on the board in the fifth with three runs, while the Tritons added an insurance run in the bottom half of that frame on an RBI single from senior Madison Zbaraschuk.
 
Senior Brittni Chapman recorded the win in the circle, while junior Hannah Perryman picked up the save.
 
Centtral Oklahoma 9, UMSL 4
The Bronchos owned a 6-1 lead after three innings with the Tritons' run coming on a Butler home run in the bottom of the first inning. Central Oklahoma then added one run in the fifth and two in the sixth, while the Tritons plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Hannah Wessels knocked out a two-run homerun, while freshman Jennah Perryman followed Wessels with her second homerun of the weekend.

Perryman and Butler recorded two hits each as UMSL tallied eight as a team.
