ST. LOUIS, MO. – One perfect game this week wasn't enough for junior
Hannah Perryman as the Tritons ace added a second one on Sunday in a 1-0 victory over McKendree in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for the No. 4 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team. The Tritons also took the nightcap, 7-3.
UMSL improves to 17-1 overall, including 2-0 in the GLVC, and moves its win streak to 14 games, second longest in program history. McKendree slips to 6-10 and 1-3 in the GLVC.
The Tritons return to action tomorrow at 12 p.m., hosting Illinois Springfield in another GLVC doubleheader.
GAME 1 – UMSL 1, McKendree 0Perryman, who struck out all 15 batters faced in Wednesday's 8-0 five inning win over Lake Superior State, struck out 13 batters while notching her third career perfect game and her sixth career no-hitter. The shutout was also the 23
rd of her career, moving her into a tie for first place on the career charts with Lucy Gassei (1984-87).
The Tritons tallied just four hits, including a solo homerun from sophomore
Alex Stupek in the first inning for the game's only run.
Stupek finished with two hits, adding a double in the third inning, which followed a one-out single by senior
Jena Boudreau. However, both runners would be stranded and UMSL left five runners stranded in the game, including lead off walks in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Game 2 – UMSL 7, McKendree 3 A five-hit, five-run sixth inning, highlighted by a
Brianna Butler three-run homerun helped the Tritons rally for the win.
Senior
Katie Rutledge gave her team a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a RBI single to right center before the Bearcats struck for three runs on four hits, including three in the infield, to take the 3-1 lead.
Stupek knocked out her second homerun of the day in the fifth inning with a solo shot to get one run back before the Tritons offense came to life in the sixth inning. A Rutledge single, followed by a McKendree error allowed junior
Katie Schultz to score before Stupek singled to right, scoring Rutledge. Butler plated three more runs with her long ball, which was the 200
th hit of her career – becoming just the third player in program history to accomplish that feat.
Stupek went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored and finished the day 5-for-7 (.714). Rutledge added two hits.
Senior
Brittni Chapman improved to 9-0 in the circle, striking out six, while scattering five hits and allowing the three runs.
