Softball Closes Season With Two Losses to No. 10 Indianapolis in NCAA Midwest Super Regional

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The No. 1 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team fell short of a trip to the NCAA DII Softball Championships for the second straight year as No. 10 ranked Indianapolis defeated the Tritons twice on Saturday, capturing the best of three games series in the Midwest Super Regional.

The Tritons recorded a 2-1 decision in the Friday's game one, but saw the Greyhounds even the series at 1-1 with a 6-0 victory in the today's first game before earning the regional title with a 7-3 win in the nightcap.

UMSL ends its season with a 48-8 record, while Indianapolis improves to 47-13 and will begin play at the 2015 NCAA DII Softball Championship at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla., on Thursday.

The loss also marks the end of the careers for seven seniors, including Jena Boudreau, Brianna Butler, Brittni Chapman, Katie Rutledge, Hannah Wessels, Katie Wood and Madison Zbaraschuk. The group posted a four-year record of 165-54, while winning three GLVC Tournament championships and making three NCAA Tournament appearances.

GAME 1: UINDY 6, UMSL 0
The Greyhounds wasted no time getting on the board with two first inning hits, including a two-run shot by Taylor Russell. UIndy added to its lead in the fourth inning with a two-out infield RBI single and plated three runs in a four-hit fifth inning. The Greyhounds finished with nine hits.

Junior Hannah Perryman suffered the loss, scattering five hits and allowing four runs in four and one thirds of an inning, while striking out two.

Wood recorded three of UMSL's five hits. The Tritons left nine runners on base, while UIndy ace Morgan Foley recorded 13 strikeouts and issued three walks and hit one batter.

GAME 2: UINDY 7, UMSL 3
A pair of leadoff doubles in the sixth inning, including one from Casey Williamson that scored Sydney Russell, broke a 2-2 tie for the game-winning run before four more runs crossed the plate.

UMSL looked to rally in the top of the seventh with three hits, including an RBI single from Wessels that scored Boudreau for the final score.

Just like today's opener, the Greyhounds wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead with two outs again off the bat of T. Russell.

However, the lead was erased by the Tritons in the third inning as Boudreau delivered a solo home run before Wessels was walked and later scored on Wood's RBI fielder's choice for the 2-1 UMSL lead.

One swing of the bat in the bottom of the fourth knotted the game at 2-2 as Natalie Lalich delivered a solo home run over the left centerfield fence.

UMSL led off the sixth inning with singles from Wood and sophomore Alex Stupek, but Foley struck out Butler and Zbaraschuk and got sophomore Sara Kern to pop up to end the threat.

Perryman was tagged for her second loss of the day, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings. She struck out five and finishes the season with a 30-5 record in the circle.

UMSL finished with six hits to the Greyhounds' eight. Boudreau finished with two hits.
