ST. LOUIS, MO. – Junior
DJ Bednar broke a scoreless game in the 74
th minute to help give the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team a 1-0 win over visiting Saint Joseph's on Friday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
Bednar shot past Pumas goalie Adam Whybrow in a one-one-one contest after taking the ball from junior
Clay Stocker and going down the middle of the box. His shot landed in the left side of the net for the game-winner.
The Tritons improve to 3-2 overall, including 2-1 in the GLVC. It was UMSL's second straight shutout at home. Junior
Jack Filla garnered the win in goal, playing all 90 minutes and making two saves.
UMSL outshot the Pumas (2-2, 1-2 GLVC), 9-1. Bednar's shot was the lone shot on goal for the Tritons.
The physical game resulted in a combined 32 fouls, one red card and four yellow cards.
The Tritons will close out their three-game homestand on Sunday, hosting Indianapolis at 2:30 p.m.
