Women’s Basketball Falls at Indianapolis Despite Another Fletcher Career High

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Redshirt sophomore Jordan Fletcher recorded her second straight career-high on Saturday, netting 31 points at Indianapolis as the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team fell victim to the Greyhounds, 64-55, in GLVC play.
 
Fletcher, who put up 22 points at Saint Joseph's on Thursday night, was 11-of-14 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line today. Senior Kelly Kunkel followed with 11 points and nine rebounds.
 
UMSL slips to 6-7 overall, including 1-4 in the GLVC, while UIndy improves to 3-11 and 1-3 in league play.
 
The Greyhounds used a late 9-2 run in the fourth quarter to help garner the win. Kunkel converted two straight layups to cap a 9-2 Tritons run that gave them a 51-49 lead with 6:49 to play, but UIndy's spurt put them back on top at 58-53 with 2:22 to play. The Greyhounds then connected on 6-of-8 free throws in the final 25 seconds to help seal the win.
 
UMSL shot 38.2 percent, while UIndy connected at a 45.7 clip and held a narrow 33-32 rebounding advantage.
 
The Greyhounds posted a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, which ended with a 7-2 UIndy run. After four straight points from Fletcher early in the second quarter, the home team reeled off eight unanswered to take their first double figure lead at 27-19 with 4:46 to play before owning a 30-23 halftime advantage.
 
Fletcher scored 15 points in the third quarter to help the Tritons bounce back from a 14-point deficit as Indianapolis took its largest lead of the game at 41-27 with 6:43 on the clock. Fletcher scored 11 points during a 14-4 run to pulled UMSL within 45-41 with 44 seconds to go and trailed 47-42 at the end of the frame.

Junior Sydney Bloch dished out four assists and recorded three steals, while junior Robneisha Lee pulled down seven rebounds, including three on the offensive end.
 
UMSL returns home next weekend, hosting UW-Parkside on Thursday.
