Kobe Wands and junior
Steven Davis each scored 17 points to lead five players in double figures as the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team defeated Robert Morris-Peoria on Tuesday night, 102-64.
The Tritons, who were playing their third straight game at home to open the season, improve to 2-1 overall.
Senior
Hunter Reine followed with 15 points and 13 rebounds for his second double-double this season, while junior
D.J. White and junior
Joe Henderson added with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
UMSL took a 52-26 lead into halftime. After a slow start in which the Tritons made just two of their first 13 field goal attempts, UMSL used a 29-8 run over a six-minute span, connecting on 9-of-10 shots from the field, to turn a 9-8 lead into a 38-16 advantage at the 5:09 mark.
The Tritons led by 29 twice early in the second half, including 62-33 with 15:45 to play, but saw the Eagles pull within 65-50 five minutes later. However, the guests would get no closer.
The Tritons shot 49.2 percent from the field, including an even 56 percent in the second half and owned a commanding 57-30 rebounding advantage, including a 17-11 edge on the offensive end. White pulled down eight rebounds, while Henderson grabbed seven, including five on the offensive end.
12 of 13 players got into the scoring column and 21 assists were given on 30 field goals. Senior
Joseph English handed out five assists.
UMSL also went to the free throw line 47 times, making 35, including an 8-for-8 performance from Wands.
Defensively, the Tritons limited the Eagles to 35.7 percent shooting, including 21.9 percent (78-of-32) from three-point range, and held Robert Morris-Peoria without scoring for the first 5:02 of the game.
The Tritons are back in action on Saturday, traveling to NCAA DI Indiana State for a 6 p.m. (EST) contest.
