EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team held an early nine-point lead, but a 19-1 run by SIUE sparked the Cougars to the 59-49 win Sunday afternoon in an exhibition contest for the Tritons. SIUE improves to 3-6 with the win.
UMSL, which led 15-13 after the first quarter, opened the second frame with a 9-2 advantage to build a 24-15 lead on a three-pointer from senior
Chelsey Jacox at the 4:58 mark. But from there it was all SIUE. A 19-1 run spanning the end of the first half and the start of the second, including nine straight to open third quarter, put the Cougars on top 34-25. The teams went into halftime tied at 25-25.
The Tritons, playing for the second straight day and the third time in five days, shot 30.8 percent and were outrebounded, 47-31. SIUE shot 37.7 and was held to 0-of-10 shooting from three-point range.

Robneisha Lee led UMSL with 10 points, three steals, two assists and two rebounds, while junior
Laura Szorenyi added nine points and four rebounds. Junior
Shawnta Johnson grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
UMSL is idle for final exams until next Monday (Dec. 19) when they travel to Truman State in a non-conference contest.
