KANSAS CITY, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team lost a 60-45 decision at NCAA Division I Missouri-Kansas City on Wednesday night in an exhibition contest.
The Tritons were plagued by 19 turnovers, which resulted in a 28-6 advantage in points off turnovers for the Kangaroos (5-3).
UMKC, which led 23-16 at the half, pulled away in the second half, shooting 53.8 percent from the field in the final 20 minutes.
The two teams combined to shoot just 26.3 percent in the first half. The Tritons held a 10-8 lead after the first quarter, but a 7-0 run by UMKC to open the second quarter swung the lead in favor of the home team.
UMSL used an 8-0 run early in the third quarter to trim a nine-point deficit and pull within 27-24 on a
Jordan Fletcher layup. Another Fletcher layup made it 29-26, but UMKC followed with seven unanswered for a 36-26 lead with just under four to play and never looked back.
Fletched led the Tritons with 17 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, while senior
Robneisha Lee added nine points, six of which came early in the game on a pair of three-pointers to help spark UMSL to a quick 6-2 lead.
UMSL shot 35.6 percent, while UMKC shot 38.6 percent and held a 36-26 rebounding advantage, including a 15-6 edge on the offensive end. The Kangaroos outscored UMSL, 13-3, in second chance points.
The Tritons (4-3) return to the court Saturday, hosting Kentucky Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
