ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team locked up its bid to the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Thursday night with an 81-66 win at Maryville in the regular season finale.
UMSL will be the No. 11 seed in the field of 12 and travels to No. 6 seed Truman State on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs posted a 67-62 win in Kirksville, Mo., earlier this season.
The Tritons improve to 12-15 overall and wrap up GLVC play at 6-12, while Maryville ends its season with a 10-18 mark, including 4-14 in the league.
The Tritons shot 68.8 percent (11-of16) from three-point range with senior
Brandon Marquardt netting five of those to break the program's single season record. Marquardt, who finished with 17 points, knocked down his record-breaking fourth three-pointer late in the first half. He now has 86 this season, surpassing the 84 made by Troy Long during the 2011-12 season.
UMSL connected on 9-of-10 three-pointers in the first half en route to a 42-23 halftime lead.
Junior
Hunter Reine added 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while junior
Alex Majewski chipped in 11 points and five rebounds off the bench. The Tritons held a 36-25 rebounding advantage.
Sophomore
Max Cook and redshirt freshman
Joshua Webster dished out five assists each as UMSL finished with 23 assists.
Maryville shot 44.6 percent, going 55.2 percent in the second half after being limited to 33.3 percent in the first half.
