Ortiz’s Walk-Off Gives Baseball a 5-4 Win Over Upper Iowa

CLEARWATER, FLA. – Senior Jose Ortiz delivered a game-winning two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to lift the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to a 5-4 victory over Upper Iowa on Thursday.

It was Ortiz's lone hit of the day, but allowed freshen Matt Foster and Tom DeCero to cross the plate for the win. DeCero led off the inning with a single, while Foster reached base on an error.

UMSL finished with 13 hits, including four from senior Justin Busekrus, who singled in the eighth inning, scoring Ortiz, as the Tritons pulled within 4-3.

Upper Iowa had taken a 4-2 lead in the top of seventh inning.

The Tritons improve to 7-1, while the Peacocks slip to 3-6.

Junior Tanner Hudson added three hits and two RBIs, driving in UMSL's first two runs. His first inning single gave the Tritons a 1-0 lead, while his third inning single tied the game 2-2.

Junior Andrew Bicklein recorded his first win of the year and the second of his career, working two and two-thirds of an inning in relief. He gave up just one hit and walked one, while striking out two during that time.
