ST. LOUIS, MO. – The No. 18 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team won its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, 5-4, over Maryville Friday afternoon, while the Saints won the capper, 7-0.
UMSL moves to 13-4 overall, including 1-1 in the GLVC, while Maryville is now 10-11 and 1-1 in the league. The two teams will close out the series tomorrow with another doubleheader set for a 12 p.m. start.
GAME 1: UMSL 5, Maryville 4Senior
Dominic Orlando's two-out, two-run double in the eighth inning proved to be the game-winner, giving the Tritons a 5-4 lead they would not relinquish.

Austin Simokaitis recorded the save, his seventh of the year and 18
th of his career, tying an UMSL program record.

Kurt McGuire improved to 4-0 on the mound in the start. He scattered seven hits and allowed four runs, while striking out three and walking two.
UMSL held an early 3-0 lead, scoring once in the third inning on an RBI single from freshman
Matt Foster, before plating two runs in the fourth. The first came on an Orlando sac fly, while the second scored on a Saints error.
Maryville then followed with four unanswered runs, including three in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.
UMSL held a 9-8 advantage in hits with senior
JonMichael Weaver going 3-for-5 at the plate. Orlando finished with three RBIs.
GAME 2: Maryville 7, UMSL 0The Saints had two home runs that provided all the scoring, including a grand slam in the second inning and a three-run shot in the third inning. Maryville took advantage of five walks issued by UMSL as well as three hit-by-pitches.

Zach Lindsay suffered the loss in two innings of work in the start, allowing four runs on one hit.
UMSL tallied five hits, but left eight runners on base. Senior
Jose Ortiz was 3-for-3 at the plate and also drew a walk.
