Baseball Records 16 Hits in Road Win at Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, KY. – All nine batters recorded a hit on Tuesday afternoon as the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team totaled 16 in an 8-5 win at Bellarmine.
 
The Tritons complete the two-game sweep of the Knights and improve to 16-5 overall, while Bellarmine slips to 9-13.
 
UMSL gave itself an early 6-0 lead in the second inning behind five hits and two Knights error. Senior Dominic Orlando delivered his first home run of the year, while senior Jose Ortiz added a two-run single before a dropped fly ball allowed two more runs to come home.
 
Orlando, who finished with two hits and three RBIs, extended the lead to 7-0 in the fourth with an infield RBI single.
 
Bellarmine got on the board in the bottom of the fourth and crossed the plate once again in the fifth to trim the deficit to 7-3.
 
An RBI fielder's choice from junior Tanner Hudson in the seventh inning with the bases loaded scored junior Jake Beckwith for the 8-3 advantage, while the Knights plated two runs in the bottom half for the final score.
 
Beckwith finished with three hits and two runs scored, while freshman Matt Foster also had a three-hit day. Ortiz added two hits, drew three walks and scored a run.
 
Junior Jordan Tharp earned the win in his first appearance of the year, going five and one-thirds of an inning in the start. He allowed three runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out one.
 
Senior Austin Simokaitis recorded his ninth save of the year despite allowing two hits.
 
UMSL returns home tomorrow to host Southern Indiana in a single game at 2 p.m.
