BIG RAPIDS, MICH. – Freshman
Anthony Hughes made a three-pointer with two seconds to play to give the University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team a 64-62 win over Grand Valley State on Friday night in the Tritons' season opener as part of the GLVC-GLIAC Challenge, hosted by Ferris State.
The Tritons overcame a 13-point deficit to garner the win and open the season 1-0.
How It Happened
- Grand Valley State took its largest lead of the game at 52-39 with 14:08 to play, while UMSL followed with nine unanswered, pulling within 52-47 on junior

- Grand Valley State took a 62-61 lead with 10 seconds to play before Hughes game-winner.

Johnathan Matthews led the Tritons with 15 points, knocking down 3-of-5 three-pointers, and also dished out five assists.
- Senior
Elijah Watson followed with 12 points and four assists.
- UMSL shot 37.7 percent from the floor and went 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from three-point range.
- Grand Valley State shot 41.4 percent. The Lakers connected at a 51.6 clip in the first half, but were at just 29.6 percent in the second half.
- Grand Valley State held a 42-33 rebounding advantage. Junior
