Box Score EAST PEORIA, ILL. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team saw its season come to an end on Friday with a 3-1 loss to Rockhurst in quarterfinal round action of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
The No. 6 seeded Tritons won the opening set, 25-21, before the No. 3 seeded Hawks came back to win 25-23, 25-22, 25-15.
UMSL ends its season with a 22-8 record, the program's most wins since 2008, while Rockhurst improves to 27-6 and advances to tomorrow's semifinals.
Senior
Madyson Abeyta recorded 47 assists and 15 digs in her final collegiate match, while junior
Alex Miner tallied 15 kills and four blocks, hitting .444. Sophomore
Selena Nolte had a match-high 16 kills.
Abeyta picked up her sixth straight double-double in the first set with 14 assists and 11 digs as UMSL hit .250 and racked up 19 kills, including six from sophomore
Kylie Rudsinski.
Rockhurst took the second frame after using three straight points to pull ahead 23-20. The Tritons got within 23-22 and fended off one set point before the Hawks secured the win.
A 5-0 run in the fourth gave Rockhurst a 14-9 advantage. The Tritons rallied to tie it at 20-20, but the Hawks answered with four straight – two on UMSL attack errors and two on kills – for set point.
Rockhurst hit .438 in the fourth set to help secure the win and finished the match hitting .256, while UMSL hit .210.
Senior
Danielle Waedekin finished with 20 kills, bringing her two-year career total to 1,170, which ranks seventh all-time in program history.
Abeyta graduates ranking ninth in career assists with 1,847.
