Women's Basketball Rolls Past Oakland City, Putting up 96 Points

OAKLAND CITY, IND. – Senior Shawnta Johnson and freshman Alex LaPorta each recorded a double-double as the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team rolled to a 96-54 win at Oakland City on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Johnson finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the year and also dished out five assists, while LaPorta notched her sixth double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

How it Happened
UMSL shot 65.6 percent in the first half en route to a 51-15 halftime lead. The Tritons scored the game's first eight points and made it 24-2 midway through the first quarter on Johnson's layup. UMSL led 30-9 after the first 10 minutes.
 
The Tritons connected on 9-of-12 field goals in the second quarter, while limiting the Oaks to just two and six points.
 
UMSL held a 75-33 lead after three quarters and took its largest lead of the game (46 points) at 68-22 in that frame on LaPorta's layup.
 
Numbers of Note
- UMSL finished the game shooting 55.4 percent, while Oakland City shot 31.3 percent.
- Senior Jordan Fletcher added 18 points and nine rebounds.
- Senior Sammie Sproul tossed in 14 points (4-of-7 3FG) to go with six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
- All 10 players scored at least four points.
- Junior Arielle Jackson dished out eight assists.
- UMSL had season highs of 58 rebounds and 27 assists, while its shooting percentage was also a season-high.
