ROMEOVILLE, ILL. – The No. 25 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team opened a two-week Great Lakes Valley Conference road trip with a split at Lewis on Friday, taking the nightcap, 5-4, in nine innings. The Flyers won the opener, 5-1.
The Tritons are now 21-9 overall, including 3-3 in the GLVC, while Lewis is 16-9, 4-2.
GAME 1: Lewis 5, UMSL 1
How it Happened
- Lewis plated four runs in the second, all with two outs.
- UMSL got on the board in the sixth inning on a sac fly from senior
Sara Kern.
- Tritons left runners at second and third in the first and in the fourth and stranded seven in the game.
KEY STATS

Reagan Osborn had three of UMSL's seven hits, while Kern had the lone extra base hit with a double.

Carly Kingery scattered 10 hits, walked one and struck out five.
GAME 2: UMSL 5, Lewis 4 (9 inn.)
How it Happened
-After Lewis was able to counter on UMSL's first four runs, the Tritons finally secured the win in the top of the ninth as sophomore
Kaitlin Fraser drew a two-out bases loaded walk.
-Sophomore
Serena Olson gave UMSL a 1-0 lead in the third with an RBI double before Lewis tied it up in both the bottom of the fifth.
-A Flyers error in the sixth helped UMSL regain the lead at 2-1, but a solo home run by the home team knotted it at 2-2.
-Redshirt freshman
Morgan Hill picked up her third hit of the game – and fourth of the day – with an RBI double to bring in senior
Alex Stupek for a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh.
-A two-out RBI single from Lewis in the bottom of the seventh sent the game to extra innings.
-Senior
Erin Walker delivered her first home run of the season with two outs in the top of the eighth, but the Flyers countered in the bottom of the frame with a solo shot to make it 4-4.
KEY STATS
-Hill went 3-for-4 with a walk and a RBI in her first start.
-Osborn and Kern added two hits each as UMSL out-hit Lewis, 12-8.
-Sophomore
CoCo Caraway earned the complete game win, striking out and issuing no walks.
