ST. LOUIS, MO. - After darkness forced the suspension of the second game of a four-game series between Maryville and UMSL on Friday evening, the two teams were able to squeeze in the final inning on Saturday afternoon with the Saints posting an 8-6 victory.
UMSL is now 6-11, including 0-2 in the GLVC, while Maryville is 15-8 and 2-0 in the league.
Game Highlights
- Junior
Jacob Monti's RBI single in the third scored senior
Jake Beckwith to pull UMSL within 2-1.
- First five batters to the plate reached for the Saints in the fourth inning as the lead grew to 5-1.
- An RBI single from junior
Chris Mathes, followed by a throwing error on the same play, sent two UMSL runners across the plate to trim the deficit to 5-3.
- UMSL got one run back in the sixth on sophomore
Tom DeCero's one-out bases loaded RBI single.
- Maryville added three runs in the top of the seventh, while a two-run home run from senior
Tanner Hudson with two outs in the bottom of the frame, accounted for the final score.
Statistically Speaking
- Hudson finished with two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs, while Monti also recorded two hits.
- Freshman
Bobby Shallenberger suffered the loss, allowing five runs on five hits, while walking three and striking out two.
- Maryville out-hit UMSL, 12-9.
