KANSAS CITY, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team bounced back from a 6-2 game one Great Lakes Valley Conference loss at Rockhurst on Saturday to hang on for a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
UMSL is now 24-10 overall, including 6-4 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst, which entered the day atop the league standings, is 20-16 and 9-3 in the league.
Game 1: Rockhurst 6, UMSL 2
Game Highlights
- A pair of UMSL first inning errors led to five unearned runs for the Hawks and that would be all the home team would need.
-The Tritons got two runs back in the top of the second. The first coming on back-to-back doubles from seniors
Sara Kern and
Alex Stupek and the second on an RBI groundout from freshman
Morgan Hill.
-UMSL loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning on a hit by pitch and a pair of walks, but Hawks ace Bridgette Sappington ended the threat with a strike out.
Statistically Speaking
- UMSL was limited to four hits, while Rockhurst tallied eight.
- Of the Tritons' four hits, three were doubles.
- Sophomore
Carly Kingery suffered the loss despite allowing one earned run. She scattered eight hits, struck out four and walked two.
Game 2: UMSL 2, Rockhurst 1
Game Highlights

Serena Olson gave UMSL a 1-0 lead to start the game with a single that scored senior
Erin Walker, who singled and stole second.
- Sophomore
Reagan Osborn made it 2-0 with a two-out RBI single in the sixth.
- Rockhurst loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the sixth but got just one run in on an UMSL error. The Hawks then left the tying run at second base to end the game.
Statistically Speaking
- UMSL finished with 10 hits, including two each from Osborn, Walker and Hill.
- Senior
Ryan Logan reached base twice with a pair of walks.
- Freshman
Andee Tiffee (6-2) tossed the complete-game five-hit victory, striking out five and walking three. The lone run she allowed was unearned.
