Softball Advances to Winner's Bracket Final After Defeating No. 2 Seed Rockhurst

EAST PEORIA, ILL. - Senior Alex Stupek drove in two runs, tying the program's career RBI record with 170, to help the No. 3 seed University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team to a 3-2 victory over No. 2 seed Rockhurst on Thursday evening, sending the Tritons to tomorrow's winner's bracket final.

UMSL will face No. 5 seed McKendree at 1 p.m. for the right to advance to Saturday's championship game. McKendree upset top-seeded Southern Indiana, 3-2.

Stupek used an RBI double in the first inning and an RBI single in the third inning, driving in senior Erin Walker both times, for the early 2-0 advantage. Rockhurst got a run back in the fifth before UMSL made it a two-run game again in the sixth. Senior Ryan Logan doubled with two outs and then scampered home, sliding under the tag at the plate on an RBI single from junior Jennah Perryman.

A two-out RBI double by the Hawks in the bottom of the sixth accounted for the final score.

Sophomore Carly Kingery picked up her second win of the day, fanning seven with no walks in the complete game effort.

Both teams collected 10 hits, with Stupek, sophomore Serena Olson and freshman Morgan Hill all recording two hits.

Defensively, the Tritons turned two double plays, including one in the fifth after Rockhurst scored to end the frame.
