EVANSVILLE, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team took host Southern Indiana to overtime, but the Tritons' offense went cold in the extra period and the Screaming Eagles earned an 84-73 win Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
UMSL was 0-of-10 from the field in OT with six of those misses coming from three-point range, while Southern Indiana outscored the Tritons, 11-0.

Eric Dust notched his first double-double with 11 points and a season-high 11 rebounds.

How it Happened
Southern Indiana led 42-33 at the half. After a layup by senior
Steven Davis knotted the score at 17-17 midway through the opening stanza, the Screaming Eagles rattled off 10 unanswered to go up 27-17 at the 8:28 mark. USI took its largest lead of the half three minutes later at 34-21, while freshman
Jose Grubbs scored four of UMSL's final six points as the Tritons got within 42-33 at the break.
Southern Indiana made 7-of-10 three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes, while UMSL was just 3-of-13.
UMSL outscored the Screaming Eagles, 23-7, in the first 11 minutes of the second half en route to a 56-49 lead with 8:44 to play as Matthews capped a 13-0 run with a layup. Defensively, the Tritons held USI without a field goal for a stretch of 10 minutes. The home team took a 48-37 lead at the 17:25 mark, but would not net another field goal until 7:23 when they pulled within 56-55.
After a traditional three-point play by Matthews gave UMSL a 66-60 lead with just over four minutes to go, USI followed with an 11-2 run to take a 71-68 lead with 1:45 on the clock. Dust ended the run with a three-point play to knot the game at 71-71, while both teams got a bucket in the final minute as the game went to OT. Matthews scored the go-ahead layup while USI got the equalizer, but missed the and one.
Numbers of Note
- Davis and Grubbs each added 13 points with Grubbs also grabbing a season-high nine rebounds to go with four steals.
- UMSL shot 38 percent after ending regulation at 44.3 percent, while Southern Indiana connected at a 45.5 percent clip.
- The Screaming Eagles held a 53-37 rebounding advantage, including a 14-9 edge on the offensive end and outscored UMSL, 16-8, in second chance points.
