Softball Drops Two One-Run Games at Illinois Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. – Senior Jennah Perryman had two home runs, but it wasn't enough as the University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team lost a pair of one-run games at Illinois Springfield on Friday in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Prairie Stars won by scores of 5-4 and 2-1.
 
Perryman recorded her fourth and fifth long balls of the season, giving her 34 for her career, which ranks fifth on the career charts.

Game 1: Illinois Springfield 5, UMSL 4
The Prairie Stars rode an early lead en route to the win, taking a 4-0 lead after three innings, which included a three-run second frame.
 
Perryman got two runs back for the Tritons in the top of the fourth on her two-run long ball down the left field line, which also sent junior Chelsea Martinez home.
 
After UIS added an insurance run in the fifth, the Tritons put two runners on in the sixth with one out and were brought home by sophomore Andee Tiffee on a single to right center.  
 
UMSL finished with seven hits. Perryman recorded two of those hits, including a double and a home run, and added two RBI and scored two runs. Tiffee and Osborn also recorded two hits each.
 
Junior Carly Kingery was tagged the with loss, allowing all five runs on eight hits, which included just one for extra base and three that stayed on the infield. She also struck out seven and walked one.  
 
Game 2: Illinois Springfield 2, UMSL 1
Perryman delivered her second homer of the day, a solo shot in the fourth inning that got UMSL on the board and cut the deficit to 2-1.
 
The Tritons put the go ahead run on base in the top of the seventh with one out when Perryman was walked and Tiffee singled, but couldn't get a run home.
 
UMSL was limited to two hits, but had baserunners four other times, including two on walks, while junior Reagan Osborn was hit twice by the pitch.
 
Tiffee scattered seven hits in the loss, while striking out four and walking one.
 
Up Next: UMSL is scheduled to doubleheader play at Lewis on Sunday.
