Softball Plates 14 Runs in Sweep of Saginaw Valley State

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Junior Reagan Osborn recorded four hits and five RBI on Friday as the University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team swept past Saginaw Valley State in the Tritons' home opener. UMSL won by scores of 7-1 and 7-0.
 
The Tritons out-hit their guests, 19-10, in the two games.

Game 1: UMSL 7, Saginaw Valley State 1
UMSL jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, scoring two on a double from Osborn, while junior Serena Olson also drove in one with a double. The Tritons sent all nine players to the plate and also took advantage of three walks while recording three hits in that frame.
 
Junior Lizzy Miller added a two-run double in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-1 after the Cardinals got on the board with a solo home run in the top half of the inning, while an RBI single from junior Madi Sundling in the sixth accounted for the final score.
 
UMSL outhit the Cardinals, 11-6, with Osborn and Miller each finishing with two hits and two RBI, while junior Carly Kingery also tallied two hits.
 
Kingery earned the win in the circle, tossing the complete game. She struck out seven and retired the last seven batters she faced.
 
Game 2: UMSL 7, Saginaw Valley State 0
Sophomores CoCo Caraway and Andee Tiffee combined for the shutout. Caraway earned her first win of the season, going four innings in the start. She scattered three hits and struck out three. Tiffee notched her third save of the season, working three complete innings, allowing just one hit and striking out six. Tiffee came into the game with two runners on in the top of the fifth and walked the first batter she faced to load the bases, but retired the next three to get out of the jam.
 
Offensively, UMSL plated three runs with two outs in the third inning for the 3-0 lead. The first came on redshirt sophomore Morgan Hill's RBI double, while Olson followed with a two-run long ball, her team-leading 10th home run of the season.
 
The Tritons also plated all four runs in the fourth with two outs. Osborn cleared the bases with a three-run double before an RBI single from Hill.
 
Osborn finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and also drew a walk, while Hill added two hits and two RBI.
 
Up Next: UMSL will host McKendree tomorrow in its GLVC opener at 12 p.m. The game has been moved up a day from the originally schedule Sunday.
