Softball Celebrates Senior Day With Win Over Drury

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a six-inning 9-1 win over Drury in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. Game two of the doubleheader was postponed until tomorrow after the opener featured a rain delay of nearly two hours.

Prior to the game, seniors Jennah Perryman and Kaitlin Fraser were recognized for their contributions to the program.

Perryman then helped her team to the win, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.

UMSL out-hit the Panthers, 11-3, with junior Chelsea Martinez finishing 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored.

Junior Carly Kingery got the complete game victory, striking out a season-high 12, one shy of her career high.

UMSL took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with both runs coming on two outs, including one on Martinez RBI double and the other on an RBI single from junior Lizzy Miller.

Martinez made it 4-0 in the third with her second straight double that drove in two runs, while freshman Sapphire Munoz's RBI single extended the lead to 5-0.

After a solo home run by the Panthers in the top fourth, a sac fly from sophomore Andee Tiffee in the fifth made it 6-1.

Then in the sixth, Perryman recorded a RBI double before junior Serena Olson's two-run homer ended the game. It was her 17th long ball of the season, one shy of the single season record.

UMSL improves to 28-15, including 15-6 in the GLVC, while Drury slips to 13-22 and 4-15 in the league.
