Volleyball Nets Thrilling Five-Set Win Over Missouri S&T

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team filled up the stat sheet on Friday night in a thrilling five-set victory over Missouri S&T in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Tritons won by set scores of 26-24, 23-25, 25-17, 25-27, 15-12.
 
The Tritons totaled 121 digs, including 40 from freshman Megan Woll, the second most by a GLVC player this season, while senior Alivia Brinker recorded a career-high 25 digs. UMSL limited the Lady Miners to .072 hitting behind a season-high 12 blocks, including nine from senior Alex Miner.

How It Happened
  • SET 1: Long rallies in the opening frame led to UMSL recording 37 digs, including 15 from freshman Megan Woll and 11 from senior Alivia Brinker. Juniors Kylie Rudsinski and Selena Nolte combined for nine kills with Rudsinski tallying two of her five in the final two points.
  • SET 2: The Lady Miners used a 6-2 blocking advantage to help even the match, limiting the Tritons to .045 hitting.
  • SET 3: UMSL limited Missouri S&T to -.023 hitting.
  • SET 4: The Tritons fended off set point at 24-23 and took the match point at 25-24 before S&T rallied back to force a decisive fifth set.
  • SET 5: Missouri S&T opened with a 4-0 lead, but UMSL finished with a 4-2 run to break from an 11-11 tie. The Tritons hit .250 in the clincher with Miner putting down three kills in five swings with no errors.
Statistically Speaking
  • Rudsinski finished with 16 kills, while Nolte and Miner added 12 each for the Tritons, who hit .138.
  • Rudsinski added seven blocks.
  • Freshman Cara Ferchen (24 assists, 13 digs) and sophomore Payton Kennelly (22 assists, 17 digs) both had double-doubles.

  • UMSL improved to 3-0 at home
  • The two teams combined for 461 attack attempts and 239 digs.
  • UMSL had 11 service errors, while S&T had nine.
