Women's Soccer Outshoots the Flyers in 2-1 Loss

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team outshot visiting Lewis, 19-4, but came up short in a 2-1 loss Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UMSL opened the contest strong, controlling the ball for the first 15 minutes and taking four early shots, but the Flyers got the board in the 17th minute on their first shot of the game off the corner kick.
  • The Tritons nearly tied it in the 34th minute when freshman Mia Milazzo's shot hit the crossbar.
  • UMSL strong to start with first four shots, but Lewis scored on its first corner kick
  • Lewis added an insurance goal at 61:37 when Kailey Parnello beat the defense down the field before beating Amber Hayes with a shot to the left pocket.
  • Senior Lee Strande quickly countered, scoring her second goal of the season 20 seconds later off a feed from junior Sarah Lyon.
 
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
  • Milazzo finished with five shots, while fellow freshman Maya Ware had six shots.
  • Of its 19 shots, only five were on target.
  • Lewis had three of its four shots on goal.
