ST. LOUIS, MO., January 31, 2019 – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team finished with a 9-0 run over the final 44 seconds en route to picking up a 71-65 victory over Rockhurst on Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
After leading by as many as 13 in the first quarter, the Tritons saw the Hawks rally back and take a five-point lead midway through the final quarter. A three-pointer by Rockhurst then gave the guests a 65-62 lead with 53 seconds to go, but the Tritons went 9-for-10 at the free-throw line for the victory.

Arielle Jackson scored a game-high 26 points, 20 of which came in the first half, and made all four of her free throws in the final six seconds.

How it Happened
UMSL broke open a 26-14 lead after the first quarter, which included a string of 11 unanswered, behind 64.7 percent shooting.
A 13-4 start to the second quarter by the Hawks trimmed the lead to 30-29, but Jackson (six) and sophomore
Alex LaPorta (four) combined for 10 of the Tritons' final 11 points en route to a 41-34 halftime lead.
Rockhurst outscored the Tritons, 20-12, in the third quarter and took a 54-53 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The fourth quarter saw three ties and three lead changes and included an unsportsmanlike foul by Rockhurst that led to two extra Triton free throws.
Inside the Box Score
- LaPorta added 12 points and had seven rebounds, while freshman Kiara Stewart added 10 points and eight boards. Stewart also tallied two blocks, one of which came with eight seconds to play and the Tritons leading by one.
- LaPorta dished out four assists, while freshman Faye Meissner collected three steals, one of which came with 22 seconds to play and UMSL down by one.
- Junior Grace Morrow chipped in six points, three blocks and four rebounds.
- UMSL shot 46 percent, while Rockhurst connected at a 51 percent clip and edged the Tritons, 29-28, on the boards.
