ROMEOVILLE, ILL. – The No. 22 ranked and third-seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team saw its season come to an end on Thursday in opening round action of the NCAA DII Midwest Regional Tournament with a 3-0 loss to No. 23 ranked and sixth-seeded Michigan Tech.
The Tritons making the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010, and just the fourth in school history, lost by set scores of 25-16, 25-12, 25-16.
UMSL finished the year with a 29-5 record, the most wins since 1991, while Michigan Tech (24-7) advances to tomorrow night's regional semifinal against the winner of No. 2 seed Hillsdale and No. 7 seed Indianapolis. The Huskies are playing in their third straight NCAA Tournament.
The Tritons hit a season-low .0.25, while Michigan Tech connected at a .214 clip and tallied nine blocks and seven service aces.
Sophomore
Charlotte Richards recorded a team-high eight kills, while fellow sophomore
Megan Woll posted a match-high 24 digs. Freshman
Raquel Kessler finished with six blocks, while junior
Kaileen Herman dished out 18 assists.
The loss concludes the careers of seniors
Selena Nolte, Kylie Rudsinski,
Amanda Vollmer,
Madsy Richards and
Morgan Childers. Nolte leaves the program as the all-time kills leader (1,469), while Rudsinski leaves ranking third in kills (1,243) and ninth in total blocks (295), including sixth in block assists (271).
