Softball Shuts Out Western Oregon, Falls to Top-Ranked Saint Anselm

CLERMONT, FLA. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team posted a 3-0 win over Western Oregon on its second day of competition at The Spring Games on Friday before falling to No. 1 ranked Saint Anselm, 8-1.

Senior Carly Kingery (3-6) notched her first shutout of the season, tossing the complete game four-hitter. She struck out nine and didn't issue a walk.
 
Offensively, the Tritons tallied nine hits, including two from senior Chelsea Martinez. Martinez's RBI single in the third inning gave UMSL a 1-0 lead, while in the fourth, senior Madi Sundling delivered her first home run of the season before senior Reagan Osborn added an RBI single to make it 3-0.

The defending national runner-ups pounded out 11 hits, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after their first at-bat.
 
UMSL scored its run in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single off the bat of senior Lizzy Miller. Miller and freshman Jessica Mrzlak had two hits each for the Tritons, which tallied six as a team.
 
Junior Andee Tiffee (2-2) struck out seven, but walked four and allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings in the start.

UMSL is idle on Saturday before returning to the field on Sunday for games against No. 25 Gannon (9:15 a.m. EST) and Walsh (11:30 a.m. EST).
