Women's Basketball Sees Season End at Maryville

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team saw its season come to an end on Saturday with an 82-69 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss at Maryville.  
 
Despite the loss, the Tritons had a 44-25 rebounding advantage, including a 22-1 edge on the offensive end.
 
Sophomore Alex LaPorta led UMSL with 17 points and nine rebounds, coming up one board short of her 11th double-double. She also added three assists and two steals.

How it Happened
Maryville owned a 36-24 halftime lead, shooting 56 percent in the first half. The Saints led 12-11 after the first quarter before opening the second period with a 17-4 scoring advantage to up the lead to 29-15 nearly four minutes in. UMSL shot just 30.3 percent in the first half, which included making just 1-of-10 three-pointers.
 
Back-to-back three-pointers from freshman McKenzie Lathrom in the third quarter trimmed the deficit to single digits at 52-44 with 4:06 on the clock before the Saints led 59-49 heading into the final 10 minutes. Maryville then opened the fourth quarter with eight unanswered pushing its advantage to 67-49.
 
UMSL put together one last run, using a 10-0 run to pull within 72-62 with just under four minutes to play, but the Saints followed with an 8-0 run.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Lathrom and fellow freshman Faye Meissner added 13 points each, while Lathrom also pulled down five rebounds.
  • Senior Arielle Jackson followed with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists in her last collegiate game.
  • UMSL shot 37 percent and owned a 44-25 rebounding advantage, while Maryville shot 56 percent.
  • The Tritons outscored the Saints, 16-1, in second chance points.
