Softball Extends Win Streak to Eight Games With Sweep of Miners

ROLLA, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team ran its win streak to eight games on Saturday with a GLVC sweep at Missouri S&T, winning 4-0 and 2-1.
 
The Tritons took advantage of four Miner errors, plating four unearned runs, while tallying 17 hits with 10 players recording at least one hit.
 
Records: UMSL (29-17, 18-6 GLVC), Missouri S&T (14-32, 8-16 GLVC)
 
Game 1: UMSL 4, Missouri S&T 0
Junior Andee Tiffee tossed the complete game, four-hit shutout, while senior Chelsea Martinez recorded two hits and two RBI.
 
Martinez took advantage of a one-out S&T error in the third to drive in senior Carly Kingery, while a two-out miscue by the hosts in the fourth allowed freshman Jessica Mrzlak to drive in senior Lizzy Miller for the 2-0 advantage.
 
Martinez notched her second RBI of the game with a double in the fifth before Tiffee drove in another insurance run in the seventh.
 
UMSL recorded eight hits, while Tiffee (13-4) struck out six and walked two.
 
Game 2: UMSL 2, Missouri S&T 1
The Tritons delivered three straight singles after a two-out Miners error in the sixth, including RBI singles from freshman Corinne Daley and Miller to break the scoreless game for a 2-0 advantage. S&T got one run back in the bottom of the frame.
 
Kingery (14-10) scattered seven hits, walked one and struck out four, while Tiffee collected two of UMSL's nine hits.
 
Up Next
UMSL closes out the regular season tomorrow at Drury. Game times have been pushed back to 2 and 4 p.m. due to the threat of morning rain.
