ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team saw its season come to an end on Friday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to Truman State in an elimination game of the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament at the UMSL Softball Field.
The No. 2 seeded Tritons finish the year with a 35-19 record, while the No. 6 seed Bulldogs (32-18) move on to face No. 3 seed Indianapolis in another elimination game. UIndy lost its first game of the day, a 3-1 decision to No. 7 seed Illinois Springfield in the double elimination tournament.
UMSL put its leadoff batter on in five of seven innings, but was only able to get a runner to third base three times, leaving 11 on base.
The Tritons were limited to four hits, which included a double by freshman
Corinne Daley, but were issued six walks, including two each to senior
Reagan Osborn and sophomore
Sapphire Munoz.
Truman State finished with five hits, including two doubles and a home run.
The loss also marks the end of the careers for seniors Osborn,
Carly Kingery,
Chelsea Martinez,
Madi Sundling and
Lizzy Miller. In four years, the group amassed a 165-67 record, winning two GLVC championships and making four NCAA Tournament appearances.
Osborn graduates second all-time in career runs (141), tied for fourth in triples (9), fifth in hits (210) and tied for eighth in doubles (38). Kingery graduates second all-time in career wins (69), complete games (80) and strikeouts (728) and third in shutouts (24). Martinez leaves with the ninth-best career batting average (.341).
