Women's Basketball Hampered by Dismal Shooting

SPRINGFIELD, ILL.. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team was hampered by dismal shooting on Thursday night in a 60-48 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss at Illinois Springfield.
 
The Tritons shot just 27 percent, including 18 percent in the first half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIS clung to an 11-10 lead after the first quarter before taking a 26-17 lead into halftime.
 
The Prairie Stars took their largest lead of the game 34-19 four minutes into the third period before UMSL got within seven twice early in the fourth quarter.
 
UIS shot 36.7 percent, including 83.3 percent in the fourth quarter, in which they were also 8-of-12 at the free-throw line and owned a 46-37 rebounding advantage to overcome 23 turnovers.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Redshirt senior Laura Szorenyi scored a team-high 18 points, making 6-of-12 field goals.
  • Sophomore Kiara Stewart equaled a career-high 15 rebounds.
  • Junior Alex LaPorta recorded eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
  • Junior Danielle Berry collected a season-high five steals.
