Another Defensive Effort Leads Men's Basketball to 11th Straight Win

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team held its fifth straight opponent to under 60 points on Saturday, picking up a 76-57 win over visiting Missouri S&T in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
 
The Tritons, which ranks second in NCAA DII in scoring defense (56.8 points per game), won their 11th straight game, the third best active streak in DII. UMSL also improves to 9-0 at home this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL outscored the Miners, 25-10, over the final 11:36 of the first half to take a 39-29 lead into the half. Missouri S&T owned an early 19-14 advantage, but the Tritons scored 12 unanswered to spark a 25-4 run for a 39-23 advantage on a Jason Towery layup with 1:33 to go. The Miners scored the final six points of the half.
 
The Tritons, which shot 50 percent in the first half, finished the game at 48.4 percent, while limiting the Miners to 35.2 percent shooting, including just 30 percent in the second half.
 
UMSL also held a 47-29 rebounding advantage, including a 19-13 edge on the offensive end. The Tritons outrebounded their seventh straight opponents, including the last two by double digits.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Junior Yaakema Rose Jr. scored a game-high 21 points, while also recording six rebounds, six assists and two steals.
  • Redshirt junior Jason Towery added 15 points and five rebounds.
  • Senior Jalen Wilkins-McCoy notched his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while adding five assists and three steals.
  • Junior Jose Grubbs chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.
