ST. LOUIS, MO. –Junior
Alex LaPorta's double-double of 13 points and 10 points led four players in double figures as the University of Missouri-St. Louis women's basketball team earned its first Great Lakes Valley Conference victory on Saturday afternoon with a 67-56 defeat of Missouri S&T.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL ended the first quarter with seven unanswered points to help build a 19-12 advantage. The Tritons put the lead into double figures with just under seven minutes on the clock in the second quarter before a 9-0 run by the Miners made it a two-point game at 29-27. UMSL clung to a 32-29 lead at the break.
The Tritons took a 48-45 lead into the final 10 minute frame and after a pair of three-pointers by junior
Danielle Berry in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, put the lead back to 54-47.
UMSL shot 42.3 percent and held a 39-33 rebounding advantage, while S&T shot 37.9 percent.
The Tritons collected 11 steals and outscored the Miners, 21-13, in points off turnovers.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior Danielle Berry scored 10 of her team-high 17 points in the second half and added seven rebounds and three steals.
- Freshman Breanna Diestelkamp (11 points) and sophomore Kiara Stewart (10 points) also scored in double figures. Stewart added nine rebounds, while Diestelkamp blocked two shots
- LaPorta added four assists and two steals to her stat line, while redshirt senior Laura Szorenyi also dished out four assists.
