No. 24 Men's Basketball Ties Program Record for Wins

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The No. 24 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team picked up its 22nd win of the season with a 74-60 victory over William Jewell on Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, tying the program record for wins.
 
The Tritons match the 1987-88 and 1990-91 teams, who both finished the season with 22 wins.
 
With the win, UMSL also improves to 13-0 at home and coupled with Truman State's loss at Drury, moves back into a tie for first place in the overall GLVC standings.
 
Junior Yaakema Rose Jr. scored a game-high 23 points and helped UMSL to 51.7 percent shooting.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMSL clung to a 41-37 halftime lead after an opening 20 minutes that saw the Tritons shoot 61.5 percent and the Cardinals 51.7 percent. William Jewell led for the first 10 minutes, leading by as many as seven, before 10 unanswered by UMSL swung the lead in favor of the Tritons.
 
The Tritons then limited their guests to 25 percent shooting in the second half, outscoring William Jewell, 33-23.

  • Redshirt sophomore Steve Webb added 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
  • Junior Jose Grubbs followed with 10 points, nine boards, three assists and two steals.
  • Redshirt junior Kenny Berry also scored 10 points.
  • UMSL held a 37-30 rebounding advantage.
  • William Jewell finished the game shooting 38.6 percent.
