Tritons back in win column with rout of SBU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The UMSL Tritons women's soccer team wasted little time on thick Sunday afternoon in St. Louis.

Wanting to strike early and often, the Tritons accomplished head coach Maddi Moon's game plan, as they netted four in the first half, routing the SBU Bearcats SCORE to improve to 6-5-1 and 4-4-1 in GLVC play.

Just 1:38 into the tilt, Jaycee Cotton found Jalyn Richardson for her second goal in as many weeks.

Next, 17 minutes later, Maya Ware fed Cotton for her fourth goal of the season.

Then, a mere 12 seconds later, Candice Parziani scored her first goal of the 2021 campaign, taking the feed from Casey Clark.

It certainly was equal-opportunity scoring for the Tritons as Kendal White found the net for her first goal of the season, as Courtney Schreiber used some finesse on her assist.

The Tritons concluded the opening half with a total of 11 shots to the Bearcats.

The Bearcats settled in during the second half, possessing the ball more and getting more looks as they finished with eight shots to the Tritons' four.

The Tritons tallied 15 shots for the match.

At the risk of speaking in cliches, it was a complete team win.

"Great performance by everyone and a complete team win. I was very happy about how everyone performed and it was great to see eight different players contribute to a goal or an assist. That's when you know it's a true team win," said head coach Maddi Moon.

For the Tritons, who were coming off a match against a potent Drury club, building and sustaining momentum will illuminate the game plan as the season begins to draw to a close.

"We spoke yesterday about momentum and how you can't let off the gas if you get up a goal or down a goal, that [it] just had to fuel you more and I thought we did a really good job of implementing that mentality today," added Moon. Hopefully, the momentum will carry over into next weekend. Both teams we face are really strong Maryville is coming off two big wins and [Missouri] S&T is one of the top scoring teams in the conference. It is always a battle against both teams, so we will start preparing them."

Moon said that while White is young, the athleticism and constant work ethic and hunger are evident.

Kendal has a ton of athleticism and and a super high work rate," Moon said. "We are trying to mold her into our system and she has taken huge strides to continue to get better and better."
